Hurricane Response Documentary – Jamaica

Commissioned by Sown for Good, in collaboration with Direct Relief

In November, I was commissioned by Sown for Good to travel to Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa, with the brief to get on the ground as quickly as possible and document the human impact of the disaster.

My role was to embed locally, build trust with communities and other international aid and governmental agencies on the ground, and capture first-hand perspectives from those affected, alongside relief efforts coordinated with Direct Relief.

Working in a rapidly changing, high-sensitivity environment, the priority was speed, access, and adaptability. Filming took place in real time as conditions evolved, with an emphasis on awareness, respect, and dignity in how stories were documented.

The project involved:

  • Rapid deployment to a post-disaster environment

  • On-the-ground relationship building with local communities and stakeholders

  • Observational documentary coverage of relief and recovery efforts

The documentary is currently in post-production.
